Future of Finance Initiative

2021

Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects

Griffith University

Approached by the Griffith University-led program ‘Future of Finance Initiative’, I was asked to build an identity system cabable of communicating their aspiration to encourage and teach positive divestment and environmentally-sustainable investing, that was contemporary enough to appeal to students and the conservative finance sector alike.

With sustainable and organic futures at the core of the program, the naturally complex tessellation of veins running through dragonfly wings served as a conceptual basis for the initialism. The ‘FFI’ mark was later constructed on a spreadsheet table layout, incorporating more traditional visual elements associated with the financial sector.

This word-mark became the basis for the identity and the key element in the infinitely scalable, yet inherently individual pattern system, creating unique decorative pieces for promotional posters.

Step-by-step

Outcome

Objective: Tailor identity to students, yet not remove it from the finance sector.

Research and Inspiration:
Dragonfly wings (organic), Excel grid (mechanical).

Technique: Drawn on basic Illustrator grid, sketches for pattern in notebook.

Refinement: Logo multiplied and manually edited in Illustrator, ‘phasing’ animation completed in After Effects.

Medium: Printed, monochromatically, reflecting sustainable nature of initiative.
